SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
What you need.
- Apple Vision Pro. An M2 or later model running visionOS 26 or later.
- Mac. Apple silicon preferred; Intel support is experimental. Requires macOS 14.2 or later.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Install the Companion.
Install Visionary Companion on every Mac you want to use, open it on your Mac, then launch Visionary Desktop on Apple Vision Pro.
Download CompanionOn your Mac
Open Visionary Companion from Applications and follow setup. Enable each required permission in System Settings; setup checks automatically. Optional steps explain the features they enable and can be skipped.
On Apple Vision Pro
Open Visionary Desktop, then choose Pair from the Dock divider menu. Allow Bluetooth and Local Network access when asked.
- Right-click. Pinch and hold works as a right-click. Pinch and long hold for Option-right-click.
- Open Visionary Desktop Settings. Right-click the Dock divider and choose Settings to configure the visionOS app’s appearance and behavior.
- Open Visionary Companion Settings. Click the Visionary Companion icon in your Mac’s menu bar and choose Settings for permissions and options specific to that Mac.
- Exit and retain your layout. Right-click a visionOS window close button and choose Close Visionary Desktop.
UPDATE THE COMPANION
Update cleanly.
For the simplest upgrade, open Visionary Companion and choose Check for Updates.
Install a downloaded version
- Quit Visionary Companion.
- Move Visionary Companion from Applications to the Trash.
- Empty the Trash.
- Install the new version in Applications and open it.
PAIR A MAC
Pair over Bluetooth.
Pair once. Visionary reconnects automatically, including after changing Wi-Fi networks.
Pair your Mac
- Right-click the Dock divider and choose Pair. Also open Pair in Visionary Companion on your Mac.
- Accept the Bluetooth pairing requests on Vision Pro and your Mac.
- Both pairing screens close automatically when connected.
- Repair a pairing. If Visionary Desktop says Bluetooth needs attention after a Mac restart, select Open Pair in the alert, then open Pair in Visionary Companion on that Mac. Accept the Bluetooth pairing requests on both devices. You do not need to remove the saved Visionary pairing first.
- Remove a pairing. Select Remove in each app’s Pair screen, then forget the Bluetooth pairing in both devices’ Bluetooth settings. Skip entries already removed.
- Select and Connect. A $29.99 one-time purchase lets you connect to one Mac at a time and switch to another in just two clicks from the Dock. Visionary closes the current Mac’s shares and changes the connection. Unify your Macs. A $4.99 monthly subscription (not per Mac) lets you connect multiple Macs simultaneously.
- Keyboard and pointer forwarding. Bluetooth pairing is required. Forwarding your Mac’s keyboard and pointer is optional and can be changed in Companion Settings.
- For the best peer-to-peer connection. We recommend setting your router’s 5 GHz band to channel 44 or 149. Other bands or channels can make the Mac and Vision Pro switch between router Wi‑Fi and their direct connection, causing latency spikes.
CONNECTION TROUBLESHOOTING
If your Mac doesn’t appear.
- Open Pair on both devices. Leave Pair open in Visionary Desktop and Visionary Companion, then accept any Bluetooth pairing requests on Vision Pro and your Mac.
- Check Bluetooth. Keep Bluetooth enabled on both devices, stay within range, and open Visionary Desktop on Vision Pro.
- Check Local Network access. Allow it for both apps. If peer-to-peer is unavailable, both devices need a local Wi-Fi network that permits them to communicate.
- Check Mac permissions. In Companion Settings, expand Permissions & Diagnostics and select a permission for instructions. Enable Visionary Companion in the matching System Settings section. Also choose Allow if macOS asks for direct screen and audio access.
- Repair permissions. If permissions still do not work, use Repair Permissions in VC settings on your Mac and follow the guided reinstall and setup. Keep the optional Persona Camera installed unless its setup is the problem. Restart if the repair asks.
Visionary Desktop connects without requiring the same Apple ID. Connections are TLS secured and designed to work with ordinary firewalls.
VISIONARY DESKTOP DOCK
The Spatial Dock
- Spotlight Search. Press ⌘Space to search for files and apps across all connected Macs. The search closes after you choose a result.
- Dock appearance. Option-right-click the Dock divider for even more Visionary Desktop controls, including Dock appearance.
- Mac controls. The Dock divider menu lists your paired Macs. New Macs appear at the bottom, and the list order sets each Mac’s priority. Drag the handles to reorder them. Priority affects app-icon order in the Dock and which Mac launches an app by default. The three icons control each Mac independently:
- Connect. Allows automatic connections to that paired Mac. Turn it off to disconnect the Mac and stop its connection attempts while keeping the pairing.
- Status Bar. Show that Mac’s menu-bar status items above the Dock while connected.
- Audio. Route that Mac’s audio to Apple Vision Pro. Turn Audio off to stop sharing and return output to the Mac.
- Apps on multiple Macs. When multiple connected Macs run the same app, their windows share one Dock icon - just like multiple windows of one app on a single Mac.
- App icons. Right-click a Dock icon to manage the app. Option-right-click for additional controls, including sharing windows Visionary Desktop normally excludes.
- Stay Connected. Found in Dock Settings, Stay Connected controls what happens after removing Vision Pro. On maintains the connection and leaves the Mac’s screen disabled for a quick reconnect until you interact with the Mac or it auto-locks. Off disconnects and wakes the Mac’s displays. Power Adapter maintains the connection only when both devices are plugged in.
WINDOWS AND APPEARANCE
Control your apps
- Gaze, pinch and touch. Look and pinch to select, use touch gestures where supported, or continue with your keyboard and pointing device.
- Opening a Mac window. Opening a window on your Mac automatically shares it in Visionary Desktop.
- Closing a spatial window. Closing a spatial window unshares it and is equivalent to minimizing the window. The Mac app and window remain open.
- Mac menu bar. Move the pointer to the top of the window to display that app’s menu, or use the hamburger button for a persistent menu.
- Window Zoom. Zoom controls how large a window appears.
- Active and inactive opacity. Active opacity applies to the window you are working in. Inactive opacity applies to other windows.
- Customize appearance. Set Window Appearance defaults in Visionary Desktop Settings. Customize an app by Option-right-clicking its Dock icon, or customize a window by right-clicking its hamburger button in the upper-left corner.
- Maximize. Double-click a shared window’s title bar to maximize it, just as on the Mac.
- Shared clipboard. Copy and paste between macOS and visionOS apps. With Multiple-Mac access, the clipboard follows you across connected Macs.
AUDIO, CAMERA AND IPHONE
Bring media, and even iPhone with you.
- Mac audio. Enable audio sharing in Companion Settings. Your Mac’s local output is restored when sharing ends.
- Persona camera and microphone. Set up Persona Camera in Companion Settings, then choose Visionary Persona Camera in your Mac video app.
- iPhone Mirroring. Start Apple’s iPhone Mirroring on your Mac and share that window with Visionary Desktop. You can control it with taps, scrolling and touch gestures.
KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS
Move quickly.
The following standard macOS keyboard shortcuts apply to Visionary Desktop.
